However one of the main reasons people visit Skomer is to photograph the comical Atlantic puffins and this is one of the most accessible puffin colonies in the UK, giving you the chance to get up close and personal with one of our most loved seabirds
The tour is aimed at all levels of photographic ability, ranging from beginners to the advanced photographer looking to expand their puffin portfolio. Throughout the trip we will be on hand to walk you through the best camera settings and techniques in any given situation. We will cover everything from auto focus to shutter speeds and aperture.
If you have never photogtaphed puffins before you are in for a treat, these guys are some of the most endearing and photogenic subjects you can work with, If they are not walking right upto your camera lens posing, they are probably tripping over your feet. This is why there is so much potential on Skomer, there really is no recommended camera set up. This answer is too bring everything you have, from your longest lens to your widest lens, there will be opportunities to use it all.
Yes, Puffins are the main attraction on Skomer. Yet the island is home to so much more ranging from razorbills & guillemots that greet visitors on arrival to the island, to the awesome gannets that can often be seen diving out at sea. Inland there is also much wildife to be found cute rabbits can be found running between the flowers, little owls stand proud on the stone walls and there is also a colony of short eared owls that breed on the island.
Each evening the island transform into a sea of noise and mayhem, as an estimated quarter of a million manx shearwaters make their way back onto the island. This is believed to be the largest population of manx shearwaters in the world. If you only book a day trip on Skomer, you cannot experience this spectacle, that is why the NaturesLens Puffin Photography holiday include the overnight stay not only does this mean we can we photograph the puffins in the glorious light at sunrise/sunset, we can witness one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on the planet as thousands of manx shearweaters return to their burrows.

This tour is suited for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. The hardest part is the steep set of steps upon leaving the boat. Around the island the paths are well maintained, at tmes there are few elevation changes on uneven ground. For anyone with a reasonable level of fitness this should not be a problem
Skomer is one of those places, when there really is no recommended kit. This answer is too bring everything you have, from your longest lens to your widest lens, there will be opportunities to use it all. As we will be working on an island the weather can be very changeable. Sturdy walking boots are recommended
