This talk focuses on one Summer spent living amongst the puffin colonies on two very special islands Skomer off the beautiful Pembrokeshire coastline & Fair Isle a tiny island marooned in the North Sea.
Through the talk you will be taken away from the hustle & bustle of everyday life and dropped onto the remote islands that each Summer the puffins call home. The talk will be begin in mid April when the puffins first arrive on our shores re-affirming old bonds and cleaning out the previous years burrows. Right through until the end of the breeding season when the chicks have fledged and the puffins leave our coastline again till the following Summer.
Fair Isle, once home to Viking warlords measures just 3km wide & barely 5km long. This island now only houses 70 islanders. They are far outnumbered by one of the world's most famous bird populations that breed on these cliffs during the Summer months. Whilst Skomer is a stunning island situated a few miles of the Welsh coastline and is home to the largest puffin colony in southern Britain. These islands are both havens for the seabird colonies that breed on our shores each Summer. This talk will not only discuss the trials & tribulations Kevin faced during this project but will also give you a deep insight into the history of these two remarkable islands.
